A Plutocratic Putz!

August 3, 2008 · 2 Comments

plutocracy |ploōˈtäkrəsē|
noun ( pl. -cies)
government by the wealthy.
• a country or society governed in this way.
• an elite or ruling class of people whose power derives from their wealth.

This pretty much sums it up!

Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, today sent a letter to the co-chairs of the Democratic National Convention’s Credentials Committee and urged them to pass a resolution granting a “full vote” to the delegations from Florida and Michigan.

Hon. Alexis Herman, Co-Chair

James Roosevelt, Jr., Co-Chair

Eliseo Roques-Arroyo, Co-Chair

Dear Credentials Committee Chairs:

In just a few weeks, our Party will convene in Denver for our National Convention. This will be an historic event that will showcase our vision for changing the direction of our country.

The delegates and alternates who gather on Monday, August 25 will reflect the talent, energy and rich diversity of our Democratic Party. The delegates will come from all 56 states and territories. As these delegates go about the important business of the Convention, I believe Party unity calls for the delegates from Florida and Michigan to be able to participate fully alongside the delegates from the other states and territories. Accordingly, I ask that the Credentials Committee, when it meets on August 24 to approve the delegates for the National Convention, pass a resolution that would entitle each delegate from Florida and Michigan to cast a full vote.

As a candidate for the nomination, I supported the DNC’s efforts to establish and enforce a schedule for primaries and caucuses that would broaden the opportunity for Democrats from all regions of the country and all backgrounds and walks of life to have a meaningful voice. An unprecedented number of voters participated in our Democratic nominating process. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Governor Dean for his principled leadership during this long and challenging process.

As we prepare to come together in Denver, however, we must be – and will be – united in our determination to change the course of our nation. To that end, Democrats in Florida and Michigan must know that they are full partners and colleagues in our historic mission to reshape Washington and lead our country in a new direction.

With warmest personal regards,

Barack Obama

Women–Stop Thinking You Are Invisible!!!!

“If people only would ask, Who is our strongest candidate in the fall…”–HRC

Women of America, I am speaking to you only. Sit quietly and watch this video.
Now let’s begin our discussion:

Me: How is it in the 21st century I am witnessing the public assassination of every woman in the United States and we are close to letting them get away with this unacceptable behavior?
Anonymous: Huh? What do you mean exactly?
Me: Think about it! Senator Clinton is an accomplished public figure, but foremost she is a woman as are you and I . Would you agree?
Anonymous: Yes, I would. However, I am not a politician and I separate being a woman from being a woman politician.
Me: You do, do you. How do you ignore the gender of the politician when the video above clearly indicates assaults of a vile nature solely expressed at this particular politician because she is a woman.
Anonymous: Well, now that you put it that way, yes they attacked her as a woman, not a politician.
Me: Do you see when someone attacks a woman on the scale that Senator Clinton was attacked that you and I were also being attacked.
Anonymous: Yes, I do. Truthfully, from the onset of the primary contests I have felt as though I was personally assaulted on so many levels that I just tried to ignore my disgust for my own peace of mind.
Me: How do you ignore social injustices directed at a woman, when as a woman you are the advocacy and power to stop those injustices.
Anonymous: What do you mean?
Me: The problem I see with women as a whole is that they are their own worse enemy. We have the numbers electorally to change this country at any given moment. Yet, we continue to dilute our power with lack of solidarity.
Anonymous: Why is that?
Me: There are so many reasons for that phenomenon, however, what is important is the realization that if we, as women, do not coalesce immediately to give it our best shot to place Hillary into nomination for the Democratic nominee, then we have reinforced the negative messages of this video at our own expense, rather than reinforce the positive messages that Hillary stands for human rights which includes all of us women.
Anonymous: But Obama is the nominee.
Me: No, he is not. He is the ‘presumptive nominee’. The crooked DNC has ’selected’ not ‘elected’ him. Both him and Hillary have fallen short of the required delegates to secure the nomination.
Anonymous: Oh, I see. Okay I am off to Denver.
